1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Bookwarm! These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Bookwarm ("we," "our," or "us") governing your use of the Bookwarm mobile application (the "App") and all related services.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use Bookwarm. By using the App, you represent that you meet this age requirement.
2. End User License Agreement (EULA)
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:
- Download and install the App on your personal mobile device
- Use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes
You may NOT:
- Copy, modify, or distribute the App or any part thereof
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Rent, lease, lend, sell, or sublicense the App
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
- Use the App to develop a competing product or service
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the App
3. Your Account
3.1 Registration
To use Bookwarm, you must create an account by providing accurate, current, and complete information. You may register using your email address or through OAuth providers (Google, Apple).
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:
- Create a secure password
- Not share your account with others
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
3.3 Account Accuracy
You agree to keep your account information accurate and up-to-date. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts with false or misleading information.
4. User Content
4.1 Your Content
"User Content" includes your profile information, book reviews, ratings, messages, book club discussions, and any other content you submit through the App.
You retain ownership of your User Content. However, by submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your content in connection with the App.
4.2 Content Guidelines
You agree that your User Content will NOT:
- Violate any laws or third-party rights
- Contain hateful, abusive, or discriminatory material
- Include sexually explicit or pornographic content
- Promote violence or illegal activities
- Contain spam, advertising, or promotional material
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Infringe intellectual property rights
4.3 Content Moderation
We reserve the right to review, remove, or refuse any User Content that violates these Terms, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.
5. Prohibited Conduct
When using Bookwarm, you agree NOT to:
- Harass, bully, or intimidate other users
- Send unsolicited messages or spam
- Stalk or follow users without consent
- Attempt to circumvent Page Points or subscription requirements
- Create multiple accounts or fake profiles
- Use the App for commercial solicitation
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality
- Access the App through unauthorized means
- Collect or harvest user information
⚠️ Zero Tolerance Policy: We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, hate speech, and predatory behavior. Violations will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement.
6. Matching & Communication
6.1 Matching Services
Bookwarm provides matching services (Casual Match, Book Date, Book Club) to help you connect with other readers. We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or compatibility of matches.
6.2 User Interactions
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, and you agree to exercise caution when communicating with others.
6.3 Video Calls
Book Club video calls are provided through third-party services (Agora). You agree to behave appropriately during video calls and acknowledge that inappropriate behavior may result in removal from the book club.
7. In-App Purchases
7.1 Page Points (PP)
Page Points are virtual currency used to unlock features within the App. You may earn PP through app usage or purchase PP packs. Page Points:
- Have no real-world monetary value
- Are non-refundable (except as required by law)
- Cannot be transferred between accounts
- May expire if your account is terminated
7.2 Payment Processing
All payments are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store. By making a purchase, you agree to their respective terms of service. We do not store your payment information.
7.3 Refunds
All purchases are final. Refund requests must be submitted through Apple or Google according to their refund policies. We may issue refunds at our discretion for technical issues.
8. Subscriptions
8.1 Bookwarm Plus
Bookwarm Plus is a subscription service offering unlimited access to matching features. Subscriptions:
- Are billed on a recurring basis (monthly)
- Auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date
- Can be managed through your App Store or Play Store account settings
8.2 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial periods.
8.3 Price Changes
We reserve the right to change subscription prices. Price changes will be communicated in advance and will apply to the next billing cycle after notice.
9. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, features, code, graphics, and content (excluding User Content), is owned by Bookwarm and protected by intellectual property laws.
The Bookwarm name, logo, and mascot characters are our trademarks. You may not use these without our prior written consent.
Book data (titles, covers, descriptions) is provided by Open Library and is subject to their licensing terms.
10. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with third-party services including:
- Supabase: Backend and authentication
- Adapty: Subscription management
- Agora: Video calling
- Open Library: Book data
- Google/Apple: Authentication and payments
Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for third-party services.
11. Disclaimers
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- Results obtained from the App will be accurate
- Any matches or connections will meet your expectations
- Defects in the App will be corrected
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BOOKWARM SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING:
- Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
- Service interruption or computer damage
- Damages arising from user interactions
- Cost of substitute services
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Bookwarm and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the App
- Your User Content
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any rights of another
14. Termination
14.1 By You
You may terminate your account at any time by using the "Delete Account" option in Settings or by contacting us.
14.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for:
- Violation of these Terms
- Illegal or harmful conduct
- Extended inactivity
- Any other reason at our sole discretion
14.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your license to use the App terminates immediately
- Your account and profile will be deleted
- Unused Page Points will be forfeited
- Active subscriptions will not be refunded
15. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Your Jurisdiction], without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved through binding arbitration, except where prohibited by law. You waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits.
16. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting updated Terms on our website
- Updating the "Last updated" date
- Sending an in-app notification
Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

18. Miscellaneous
Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Bookwarm.

Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right does not constitute a waiver of that right.
Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights without restriction.
